People have been trying to understand cats and their behavior for as long as they have been domesticated animals. Many people have their own theories on why they act the way they do. There are some scientific explanations while other cat enthusiasts have their own ideas. Cats act the way they do because they are moody, they are naturally nocturnal animals, and they like to be left alone.
On the whole, cats are the most independent domesticated animals that people keep as pets in their home. They have the natural inclination to march to the beat of their own drum because of their evolution. A cat is hunter and stalker that has instincts to catch food and feed itself. For this reason, many probably feel that their masters are more of temporary food providers rather than owners.
If someone has ever noticed a cat's eyes at night, they will notice that they seem to glow in the dark. This is because they are naturally nocturnal animals, meaning they are used to being awake during the night and sleep during the day. While a cat will get used to its owners schedule because of feeding times, they may ignore their owners because they are cranky from being awake during the daylight.
Along with being nocturnal animals, cats are also extremely moody creatures. They are moody for a variety of different reasons that include the weather, noise around the house, and whether or not they are hungry. Cats naturally do not like the water, so if it is raining, do not expect a cat to be anywhere in sight. Loud noises will also cause a cat to flee, and this is where people get the saying, "scaredy cat."
Another reason that cats tend to ignore their masters is because they do not respond to commands or threats well. The more attention a person gives a cat, it seems the less likely a cat is going to be interested in seeing them. When a person ignores their cat's existence then the cat will come around with much more frequency. A good way to put it is a cat will always pay attention on their terms.
Cats are great pets because it is like having another personality around the house. However, cats are extremely independent animals that only deal with anyone on their own terms. Cats are moody because of weather and get spooked by loud noises. When owning a cat, people should ignore them to get the cat to come around more often
