Cool Pets for kids

Looking for a great pet for your children? While the traditional cat or dog can be great pets for children, you are looking for something more exotic or unusual. In this case you will be happy to know that there are many other types of pets that can be a good choice for families with children.

The Guinea Pig

Guinea pigs can make great pets for children, although it should be noted that they must be carefully handled to avoid damage. Because they are easy to handle and are usually quite tame, gentle handling is generally not a problem. Guinea pigs tend to be very active during the day and night, which means they provide entertainment for the children throughout the day. They have a large living room, however, and they require fresh vitamin C-rich foods every day to stay healthy. Moreover, they must always be kept in pairs to avoid loneliness and boredom.

Madagascar hissing cockroaches

Although most people do not think of cockroaches when they think of pets, Madagascar hissing cockroaches can make for a very unique and low maintenance pet for a child. Of course they're not sweet, cute, furry creatures, so you must make sure your children are interested in this kind of pet before you buy. If so, you and your children are happy to note that cockroaches are docile animals that are easily treatable. Additionally, the hissing sound they make - which is not a sign of aggression - can be quite endearing.

Leopard geckos

If your children are interested in having a pet lizard, the leopard gecko is a good choice. Not only are they easy to find compared to other species of lizards, they are generally cheaper and much easier to fit. It is important to remember that leopard geckos a special tank set-up required, there may be a bit expensive to start. Once the tank properly establish, maintain these creatures as pets is fairly simple, and they are very docile. Therefore they can easily be handled by a child. After handling pets, make sure your child washes his or her hands properly with soap and water to prevent the possibility of contamination with salmonella.

Gerbil

If you are looking for a soft and fluffy creature to buy for your children, consider a desert rat. Gerbils are smaller than guinea pigs, but they can also very tame if handled on a regular basis. It is important to note that they are very social creatures, so you have more than one account at a time. Additionally, they are very active and can be great fun for your kids to watch and play with - just make sure your kids to warn grasp the gerbil by the tail as this can be very painful for pets.
