Sanctuary
Bandipur National Park is one of the great wildlife parks in India. It was founded in 1931 in Mysore Maharaja as his private hunting ground. Later in 1941 it was extended to the adjacent Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarhole), Kerala's Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and Tamil Nadu's Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in the south, the Niligiri Biosphere Reserve. Bandipur is situated in Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka state in India and has an area of approximately 874.2 square kilometers.
Flora
The park is densely populated with trees such as teak, Honne, Nandi, Rosewood, Sandalwood, Bamboo & Dindalu, which will form the majority. The whole park is well watered by four rivers. Some of the seasonal streams, such Wadli, Chammanahalla, Aidasanahattihalla, Hebb Alla, Warranchi, Chippanahalla and Mavinahalla. Moreover, the period of flow, there are hundreds of ponds and small tanks, which are spread across the region.
Fauna
In Bandipur National Park, the arrival of a pre-monsoon showers bring your flowering season in March and April. This is the season when the birds start breeding population to their family and animals such as elephants and the majestic gaurs fill roam freely in pastures park. From April to October, the visitor's paradise. One can easily spot a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians during the period. In the summer, when drought captures most of Bandipur, a huge collection of animals can be seen near the Kabini Reservoir northwest of the park.

The main species found in the park are tigers, leopards, elephants, Gaurs, Sambar, Chitala, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Black napped Hare, Sloth Bear, Wild Dog (Dhole), langur, Bonnet Macaque, Indian Giant Red Squirrel, Chausingha, Porcupines, Slender Loris, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Rusty Spotted Cat, Small Indian Civet, Palm Civet, Common Otter, Wild Boar, Jackal, varieties of Mongoose, Flying, pangolin, Giant Fruit Bats and Striped hyenas.
Other attractions
More than 230 species of birds have been identified in the park are one of the main attraction of this park. Many species of reptiles like Marsh crocodiles, monitor lizards, Rock Pythons, Russel's Vipers, Cobras, Rat Snakes, Wolf Snakes, Indian python, Vine Snakes, Common Kraits, Green Keel Backs, Bamboo Pit Vipers, Turtles, may Flying Lizards found in the park.
Best time to go
Best time to visit Bandipur is one year from September to November. In summer, it is advisable to be there in May and June. During the winter season from October to March the weather is cool and pleasant, making it an ideal time for wildlife watching.
Note: The park is closed in December. So visitors are asked to make their travel plans accordingly.
Getting there: There are three methods available to travel throughout the year.
By train: The nearest train station Nanjungud, which is 55 kilometers away, and the Mysore Station was a distance of 80 km.
By plane: The nearest airport is a park located in Mysore, which 80 kilometers from the park. By car: Park is located on the main road connecting Mysore and Ooty. There are regular bus and taxi service to all cities in neighboring countries.
The weather is generally cold, dry and wet. The winter season starts from November and lasts until February. Winters followed by dry season lasts through June. The rainy season begins in mid-June. It is cheerful rains before the monsoon in April and May.
