DidDid you know that Dogs can also go through similar type of disease as Alzheimer

Surprisingly, dogs can get a disease similar to Alzheimer's called Cognitive Disorientation Syndrome (CDS). Dogs affected by this disease become disoriented and lose sight of familiar faces, places and things. Sometimes unnecessarily off, some confusion with their environment and less social than it once was. These are typical symptoms of CDS and sound a lot like what we call Alzheimer's disease.
Like human Alzheimer's disease, CDS in dogs is associated with normal aging. Considered related to free radicals in the body and / or dopamine and other neurotransmitters in the brain changes. Like human Alzheimer's disease, CDS in dogs is partly due to change brain chemistry and degeneration that is not always associated with normal aging. Therefore, like humans, this disease can strike at any age but is more likely in older animals.
When dogs have these symptoms it is wise to check with your vet to get an accurate diagnosis. Most veterinarians will want extensive medical and neurological tests to make sure the dog is actually suffering from CDS, before the final diagnosis.
CDS is unfortunately a very common and debilitating illness in the family dog. Many dogs become aggressive during the last stages of the CDS so confused and / or degeneration of brain cells. As with humans, there is a high degree of attention to be given to dogs, their lives as comfortable as possible.
Research has shown that dopamine treatments work to restore normal cognitive function in a large number of dogs and therefore make life better for you and your dog. As with most diseases, early diagnosis and treatment are essential to the quality of life for all animals and our pet dogs is no different in this respect.
