Learn general information on terminology that are generally used for Horses

For readers who are not horse people here are some common terms frequently used in articles, blogs and websites about horses. This is a brief explanation only each could easily have a whole article for a more detailed definition.
Stallion - An intact male adult horse.
Mare - A female horse - a term often used before the age of 3 years and older.
Broodmare - A mare used for breeding.
Gelding - A male horse that has been neutered. (The one favored by most amateur riders due to a lack of hormones.)
Colt - A young male horse, usually at age 2 or younger, and normally still intact.
Filly - A young female horse, generally two years of age or younger.
Foal - A baby horse that still nursing (at his / her side Dam).
Dam - A horse mother.
Father - A horse father.
Weaning - A baby horse is no longer on his side of Dam (nurse) and 1 year old.
Yearling - A horse that is one year old (this is usually calculated from January 1 year after birth, regardless of when the actual date was).
Young horses are often referred to as 2-or 3-year olds, but after that they just one stallion, mare or gelding, and found an adult horse.
Corridors - corridors of a horse. Warmblood has three - run (4 beat), marc (2 beat) and canter (3 strokes).
Warmblood - this is a term used for a horse that is one of the many breeds of horses from different regions and countries around the world who describe their own race guidelines. All were a cross between a warm blood breed (mostly full-blooded-TB) and a cold-blood breed (horses) somewhere in their past. These horses are used primarily for sport of hunter, jumper or dressage. They are usually very athletic horse with an even temperament, which can be ridden by most riders.
Hunter - the sport of jumping over fences similar to those found in fox hunting, which is where the sport came from. Horses for the sport must be very stable, rhythmic passages with a lower and longer way to travel than a jumper or dressage horse.
Jumper - the sport of jumping over jumps, higher and more complex patterns than Hunter - also known as Stadium Jumping - this is an Olympic sport.
Dressage - emphasizes this sport horses under a special scheme to develop obedience, agility and balance. There are tests of increasing difficulty for horse and rider, there are patterns driven in a rectangular arena. This is also an Olympic sport and the part that is driven on music (known as freestyle) is the most popular with spectators.
Cross Country - this sport is like fox hunting without the fox and the rest of the pack. The course is out and jumps and obstacles are natural and permanent. This sport is a brave horse and rider and is the most dangerous for both.
Eventing - a combination of jumping, dressage and cross country. The horses in this sport should be very athletic and versatile.
Sport Horse - a horse that is suitable for the Olympic sports of dressage, jumping and eventing and hunters.
